How to Check Your EPF/PF Balance Online (2026 Guide)

If you're a salaried employee in India, your Provident Fund (PF) contributions are managed by EPFO (Employees' Provident Fund Organisation). You don't need to visit an office to check your balance — here are four free ways to do it, all using your UAN (Universal Account Number).

What you need first: your UAN

Your UAN (Universal Account Number) is a 12-digit number assigned to every EPF member, and it stays the same across job changes. It's usually printed on your payslip, or your employer's HR/payroll team can provide it. You'll also need it activated on the EPFO portal at least once (with an OTP to your registered mobile) before some of these methods work.

Method 1: EPFO member portal

1. Go to the EPFO member e-Sewa portal and log in with your UAN and password.
2. Go to the "View" menu and select "Passbook."
3. You'll see your full contribution history and current balance, employer-wise.

Method 2: UMANG app

The UMANG app (a government app covering many services) has an EPFO section where you can check your passbook and balance using your UAN, without needing a separate login for EPFO specifically.

Method 3: Missed call

If your UAN is linked to your Aadhaar, PAN and bank account (KYC-seeded), give a missed call to the EPFO's registered missed-call number from your registered mobile. You'll receive an SMS with your last contribution and balance — no charges, no need to speak to anyone.

Method 4: SMS

You can also send an SMS in the format specified by EPFO from your registered mobile number to get your balance details by return SMS, available in multiple languages.

If your UAN isn't activated yet

You'll need to activate it once on the EPFO portal using your UAN, and details like date of birth and mobile number, followed by an OTP. After that, all four methods above will work.
