How to Convert HEIC Photos to JPG (iPhone Photos, Free & Bulk)

iPhone photos save as HEIC by default, and half the internet still can't open them — here's how to convert one photo or a whole camera roll to JPG, free.

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default photo format on iPhone — it compresses noticeably better than JPG at the same visual quality, which is exactly why Apple made it the default. The catch: a lot of websites, older software, and non-Apple devices either can't open a HEIC file at all or handle it awkwardly.

Why HEIC causes problems in the first place

Most web browsers can't decode HEIC natively — Safari can (since it's Apple's own format), but Chrome, Firefox and most others simply reject it. That means uploading a HEIC straight from your camera roll to a web form, a job application portal, or most online tools just fails, even though the photo itself is perfectly fine.

Step-by-step: converting HEIC to JPG online

  1. Open the Image Converter.
  2. Drop in one HEIC photo, or select your whole batch — bulk conversion is supported, so you don't need to do this one photo at a time.
  3. Make sure JPG is selected as the output format.
  4. Adjust the quality slider if you want a smaller file — higher quality keeps more detail, lower quality shrinks the file further.
  5. Click Convert. Download each result individually, or grab everything at once as a .zip if you converted more than one.
Nothing is uploaded to a server for this — HEIC decoding and the JPG conversion both happen locally in your browser, so your photos never leave your device.

A quick note on file size

Because HEIC compresses more efficiently than JPG at the same quality, converting HEIC to JPG at high quality can sometimes produce a slightly larger file than the original — that's the codec difference, not a bug in the conversion. If file size matters more than maximum quality (e.g. you're attaching it to an email or a form with an upload limit), lower the quality slider a bit and the JPG will shrink accordingly.

Converting your whole camera roll at once

If you're clearing out old iPhone photos or migrating to a non-Apple device, you don't have to convert one at a time — select every HEIC file you want to convert in the same upload, and they'll all queue up together. One click converts the batch, and the .zip download gives you every converted JPG in one file instead of dozens of separate downloads.
