APAAR ID (One Nation One Student ID)

APAAR (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry) is a 12-digit lifelong academic ID issued under NEP 2020's "One Nation One Student ID" initiative. It links to the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) so that credits, marksheets, certificates and co-curricular achievements from school through higher education get stored in one digital record — usable for credit transfer between institutions, scholarship verification and skill-course recognition, instead of each institution holding a separate paper trail.

Required documents

  • Aadhaar card of the student
  • Consent from parent/guardian (for minors, given to the school)
  • Existing school/college enrollment details

Eligibility

  • • School and college students across India, created through the student's own school/institution via the UDISE+/AISHE ecosystem

Step-by-step guide

  1. 1

Your school or college initiates APAAR ID creation on your behalf — check with the institution's admin office if you're unsure whether yours has enrolled you.

  2. 2

The school collects consent (for minors, from a parent/guardian) and your Aadhaar details to generate the ID.

  3. 3

Once created, the 12-digit APAAR ID is linked to your Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) account.

  4. 4

Verify or view your ID through the DigiLocker app, where APAAR cards are also issued digitally, or ask your institution for a printout.

  5. 5

Credits, marksheets and certificates earned going forward get associated with this ID as institutions adopt the system.

Official fees

Free — there is no charge to students for APAAR ID creation.

Processing time

Depends on when your school/college processes the batch upload; many institutions complete it within a few weeks of admission.

How to apply

Through your school/college (bulk enrollment) · DigiLocker app (view/download once issued)

Frequently asked questions

APAAR IDs are meant to be created in bulk by the school or college through the official UDISE+/AISHE process, using the student's consent and Aadhaar. Individual students should ask their institution's admin office rather than expecting a separate self-service application.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • • Assuming you can self-register without going through your school/college
  • • Not checking with the institution whether your APAAR ID has actually been created
  • • Confusing APAAR ID with a regular student ID card — it specifically ties to the Academic Bank of Credits system
