A Virtual ID (VID) is a temporary, revocable 16-digit number that can be used in place of your actual Aadhaar number for authentication and verification (such as e-KYC or Aadhaar-based OTP services). It lets you avoid sharing your permanent Aadhaar number with every agency, since the VID can be regenerated whenever you want.

Enter your Aadhaar number and the captcha, then request an OTP.
Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile to verify.
Choose whether to generate a new VID or retrieve your existing one.
Note down or note that the VID is sent via SMS to your registered mobile.
Use this 16-digit VID wherever Aadhaar-based verification is needed, instead of your actual Aadhaar number.

A VID remains valid until you choose to regenerate a new one; generating a new VID automatically invalidates the previous one. Check the current UIDAI rules on minimum validity/regeneration frequency before relying on a fixed duration.
