Download Aadhaar

e-Aadhaar is the official password-protected PDF version of your Aadhaar card, downloadable anytime from the UIDAI website. It carries the same legal validity as the physical card and is accepted almost everywhere a printed Aadhaar is accepted, so it's a quick option if you've misplaced your card or just need a copy for an application.

Frequently asked questions

By default it's the first four letters of your name (in capitals, as printed on Aadhaar) followed by your year of birth, e.g. RAHU1990. UIDAI states this clearly on the download page.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • • Trying to download from unofficial or lookalike websites instead of uidai.gov.in
  • • Forgetting the PDF password format and assuming the file is corrupted
  • • Not realizing OTP won't arrive if the registered mobile number is outdated or inactive
