Masked Aadhaar Card

Masked Aadhaar is a version of e-Aadhaar that shows only the last 4 digits of your Aadhaar number, with the rest replaced by 'x's. It's a safer option to share when you only need to prove identity/address and don't want to expose your full Aadhaar number, such as with employers, landlords, or courier/delivery services.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, most organisations that accept e-Aadhaar also accept the masked version, since it still carries UIDAI's digital signature and your name, address, and photo.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • • Forgetting to tick the masked option and downloading the regular version by mistake
  • • Assuming masked Aadhaar works for every KYC use case without checking with the requesting organisation
  • • Sharing the full Aadhaar number anyway during the download process on an unofficial site
  • • Confusing masked Aadhaar with a Virtual ID — they serve different purposes
