Consumers in India have two official, free routes to raise a complaint against a seller, service provider, or manufacturer: the National Consumer Helpline (1915 / consumerhelpline.gov.in) for quick, informal grievance redressal through mediation with the company, and e-Daakhil (edaakhil.nic.in) for formally filing a case before a Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission under the Consumer Protection Act. Both are run by the Department of Consumer Affairs.

For a quick, informal complaint: call the National Consumer Helpline (1915) or register on consumerhelpline.gov.in / the UMANG app / NCH app, describing the issue and the company involved.
NCH forwards the complaint to the company's nodal officer and follows up for a resolution through mediation, typically over some weeks.
If NCH mediation doesn't resolve it, or for higher-value or more serious disputes, register on e-Daakhil (edaakhil.nic.in) to formally file a case before the appropriate District/State/National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.
On e-Daakhil, select the case type, fill in complainant/opposite-party details, the relief sought, and upload supporting documents and the requisite filing fee (fee waived or minimal depending on the claim value).
Track the case status online and attend hearings as scheduled (many are conducted online/hybrid) until the Commission issues its order.
Official fees
National Consumer Helpline: free. e-Daakhil: filing fee scaled to claim value, waived for claims up to a low threshold and modest for higher claims.
Processing time
NCH mediation: typically a few weeks. e-Daakhil formal cases: timelines vary by Commission workload and case complexity, from a few months to longer for contested cases.

NCH (1915) is a free, informal mediation route where a nodal officer tries to resolve the issue directly with the company — it doesn't result in a legally binding order. e-Daakhil is for formally filing a case before a Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, which can issue a binding, enforceable order.
