RTI Online lets any Indian citizen file a Right to Information request with a Central Government ministry, department or public authority without visiting an office in person. It covers Central public authorities only — requests for a State department (like a state PWD office or municipal body) must be filed through that state's own RTI portal instead, not this central one.

Disclaimer
TechToolsCenter is an independent educational platform. We are not affiliated with any Government authority. We do not process applications or collect personal information for government services. Always complete your application through the official government website linked on this page.
Visit the official RTI Online portal (rtionline.gov.in).
Click "Submit Request" and select the Ministry/Department/Public Authority you're requesting information from.
Fill in your details and write a clear, specific request — vague or overly broad requests are more likely to be delayed or returned.
Pay the application fee online (net banking, card or UPI); BPL applicants are exempt but must upload proof.
Submit and save the registration number shown — use it to track your request's status on the same portal.
Official fees
₹10 as published on the official portal; applicants who are Below Poverty Line (BPL) are exempt from the fee (proof required).
Processing time
Public authorities are ordinarily required to respond within 30 days under the RTI Act, 2005 (shorter if the request concerns life or liberty).
How to apply
Online (Central public authorities only, via rtionline.gov.in) · Offline (written application to the concerned Public Information Officer)

No — this central portal only accepts requests for Central Government public authorities. For a state department, use that state's own RTI portal; filing on the wrong portal can mean your request and fee aren't processed.
